NEED ANALYSIS OF THE FIRST GRADE STUDENT IN SMPN 4 WARU SIDOARJO 1. CONTEXT There are four classes in the first grade in SMPN 4 WARU but the researcher only takes one class as sample of need analysis. This class contains of fourty students in 2012. 2. BACKGROUND English is one of the important lessons to understand. The researchers make need analysis to understand the student need and the student English background in order to design English curriculum that suitable for the student ability. 3. METHOD The researchers use some methods below to collect the data. They are 1. The researchers give some questionnaire to get personal information of the student 2. The researchers meet with the student to discuss the difficulties of the student in learning English. 3. The researchers also conduct the interview one by one to the student in order to know student ability in speaking English. Aims procedure To know the student personal information Filling the identity of the students To know the English Background of the students Give the students “yes no “ questionnaire To know the English topic that they most like Ask them to rank what the topic that they most like To know the characteristic of their way to study English Give them to fill in the questionnaire by checklist To know the difficulty of learning English Meeting with the students to ask their difficulties in learning English. We make them in some group to discuss their difficulty.
